Transliteration is taken from word “transliterate”. Transliterate is to write words or letters using letters of a different alphabet or language (Hornby 2000: 1438). In this article, words or letters of Arabic language will be translated into Indonesian language because transliteration of Indonesian language is relatively most easy to understand. If you don’t understand Indonesian language, but understand English, then you can read Indonesian language more easily.
Arabic language has three vocals only. Those are a, i, and u.
1. Vocal “a” is read similar with letter “a” in word “car”.
For example:
سَ – تَ – بَ
ba – ta – sa
بَتَسَ
batasa
2. Vocal “i” is read similar with letter “i" in word “sit”.
For example:
سِ – تِ – بِ
bi – ti – si
بِتِسِ
bitisi
3. Vocal “u” is read similar with letter “u” in word “put”.
For example:
سُ – تُ – بُ
bu – tu – su
بُتُسُ
butusu
Notes:
This transliteration is not proper for scientific written work. We can use other transliteration form for formal format. My transliteration here is for making easy to understand only without direct teacher in a class.
